Creating The Shades And Beyond
The original story line and characters were actually intended for a series
of novels. However, I was not the best english student. I couldn't capture
the plot and characters in writing the way I did in drawings. I then came
to realize that I could write scripts quiet well and I was able to tell
my story through them (I think I watched too many movies when I was younger).
Of course I knew it would never be a movie, I could never get those kinds
of connections ever. The one day it hit me, I could create a comic book...
all it needed was name.
So I cheated and went to a website that gave random titles at the click
of a button. I began copying what I thought were relative titles. I settled
on Wonders and Beyond. But it just didn't seem right, and thus the word
was replaced by shades (due to the fact of evil and war... sketchy character
histories etc..).
Making The Comic
1. Write the
script (1 ' book ' at a time).
2. Sketch each page out in a sketchbook with pages 9 x 12 inches.
3. Ink with a thin black pen and scan.
4. Use photoshop to create nice straight borders.
5. Sometimes I work panel by panel, completing each one before I move
to the next. On other pages, if they have similar backrounds I will do
all the backrounds first.
6. Shading & Highlighting
7. Add the text and bubbles.
8. Resizing for the web.
